How to Work With Word Documents Saved to CD-Rs in Microsoft 2003
10/13/2010 00:00:00

Documents saved in Microsoft Word 2003 are in the DOC format. For backup or archival purposes, some Word 2003 documents were burned onto read-only CD-ROMs, known as CD-Rs. While you cannot edit or save a DOC file directly on a CD-R, you can make changes to the document by saving a copy directly to your computer. If you don't have access to Microsoft Word, Microsoft offers free software for you to view the contents of DOC files.

Difficulty: Moderately EasyInstructions1

Insert the CD-R into your CD-ROM drive.

2

Open your CD-ROM drive directory on your computer. It should be a capital letter, such as D.

3

Drag the DOC file to your desktop.

4

Double click on the DOC file to open it.

5

Choose "Save As" from the "File" menu.

6

Save the file under a different name or in a different location.

7

Make changes to the document as you would normally.
