Documents saved in Microsoft Word 2003 are in the DOC format. For backup or archival purposes, some Word 2003 documents were burned onto read-only CD-ROMs, known as CD-Rs. While you cannot edit or save a DOC file directly on a CD-R, you can make changes to the document by saving a copy directly to your computer. If you don't have access to Microsoft Word, Microsoft offers free software for you to view the contents of DOC files.
Difficulty: Moderately EasyInstructions1Insert the CD-R into your CD-ROM drive.
2Open your CD-ROM drive directory on your computer. It should be a capital letter, such as D.
3Drag the DOC file to your desktop.
4Double click on the DOC file to open it.
5Choose "Save As" from the "File" menu.
6Save the file under a different name or in a different location.
7Make changes to the document as you would normally.
