Word 2007 uses five main document views---Print Layout, Full Screen Reading, Web, Outline and Draft---designed to provide a flexible workspace to suit the needs of any user for her various projects. By default, a new Word document screen will open to the Print Layout view, which provides a what-you-see-is-what-you-get type of layout where page margins, graphics and other various layout choices are always present without the need for Print Preview.Draft view is the view formerly known as "Normal" in Word versions prior to 2007. It provides a basic white screen for a workspace without any of the layout options of Print Layout. It's more of a text-only environment, because graphics, columns, tables and other special objects will not show in this view. It's possible to change Word's default view to Draft if preferred, so that all new documents will launch using this view instead of Print Layout.
Difficulty: EasyInstructions1Launch Word Options by clicking on the "Office" button at the top left of the window. Click the "Word Options" button at the bottom of the menu.
2Select the "Advanced" option to the left of the Word Options window.
3Scroll down to the General section of the Advanced Options window and click to select "Allow opening a document in Draft view." All documents will now open using Draft view.
Tips & WarningsTo quickly switch between views in the current document, click one of the five view buttons on the status bar at the bottom-right of the Word screen or click the "View" tab on the Word ribbon at the top of the screen, and then click one of the five buttons located in the Document Views group area.
