Microsoft Office Word 2007 offers Compatibility Mode to make working with documents created in earlier versions of Word possible. When you open one of these older documents, Word automatically turns on Compatibility Mode. If you don't need to work with this feature, you can disable Compatibility Mode by converting your document.

Open your document in Microsoft Office Word 2007.

Click the Microsoft Office button in the top left corner of the window.

Click "Convert."

Click "OK" in the box that pops up warning that you are about to convert the document and its layout may change as a result. This disables Compatibility Mode for your document.
